Willie’s Daily Intake (September 14)

September 14, 2009

Dear Caitlin,

For all non-Caitlin readers, I should note that Caitlin visited me in Toronto this weekend, which is why neither of us has posted for a few days. Caitlin will be posting an extensive review of our Toronto food adventures soon (which I might contribute to as well), but for now I wanted to write a quick post about my day today.

One of the new blog ideas Caitlin and I came up while she was up here was to share our daily eats with each other—everything we eat, every day of week. I hope this isn’t too boring or anything for our other readers. It is definitely not what our blog is going to become (we will still be making plenty of fun, photo-filled posts). But I think it will give a more accurate look into our food lives, since they’re not always filled with fancy recipes and such. In fact, most of our diet isn’t like that all, and we want to make that this blog emphasizes the simple pleasures of good, simple foods. Plus, I think this will also help me better police my own diet, which is always a good thing.

So, without further ado, here’s a quick list of my day in food:

  • Super Salad (kale, dandelion greens, grape tomatoes, grapes, jicama sticks, dried cranberries, sunflower seeds, pepitas, slivered almonds, sprouts, and Raw Green Goddess dressing)
  • Banana
  • Slice of last week’s “meat” loaf
  • Apple
  • Two small glasses of beer, one Steam Whistle and one Creemore (as part of an after-class pub trip, which, unlike Thursdays, will likely not be a weekly outing—I don’t think I could take that much boozing!)

If this list looks a little small, it’s because I wasn’t very hungry when I woke up today, and in fact did not get hungry until later in the afternoon, perhaps because of all the eating out we did this weekend. But everything I did eat today was great and very satisfying. My salad was a great mid-afternoon lunch, giving me lots of energy for my two classes that followed—more confirmation for me that a salad is the perfect student, on-the-go lunch.

Tomorrow should have some exciting food adventures to report, so stay tuned!

Until we eat again,
